The year finally was coming to a close.

Kairi sat comfortably in her home, watching her little tv in anticipation of the celebration of the new year. She had hung streamers, lights, and all other manners of decoration around her home in the hopes of making the celebration brighter for herself.
Watching the ball drop was always tradition for her, and she found it the perfect way to ring the new 365 in. She usually had others to share it with, but when she had invited her two friends to join her, they both declined.
She figured they wanted to celebrate in their own ways instead of joining her this time, so she didn’t mind. She knew that whatever they were doing tonight, it must be important to them and that’s what mattered most.
Her friend’s happiness, both now and in the coming year, was important to her.

Ame sniffled as he sat by the river near his home.
He had felt bad declining Kairi’s invitation, but he didn’t want to celebrate. He wanted to be alone; he just wanted the year to be over.
So many people were lost and hurt this past year, and even though New Year’s was a celebration introducing the year to come, he could do nothing but worry about this next year being worse. He was always the pessimistic sort, after all. That was one of the things he hated about himself.
Noticing the moon reflected on the water’s surface, he looked up to face it. It was as though the moon could see into him, could see all his flaws.
Maybe, just maybe, there was a chance that both he and the new year could make themselves better, for everyone’s sake.

Marx laughed to himself as another couple heading home for their New Year’s celebration was doused with water. It never got old.
He had set up a little post in a tree above a busy path, ready to wreak his mischief on anyone who passed by. While others would think differently, a trick at someone else’s expense was the most amusing thing to him.
He was loathe to admit it, but sometimes he did feel bad about it. He knew he wasn’t a particularly nice guy for doing what he did. For the most part, though, he didn’t care.
As long as there was potential fun to be had, that was all that mattered, both now and in the coming year.

As the ball dropped and the new year began, the three of them spoke their hopes for the year.
“I hope this year is good to all of my friends.”
“I hope this year is better than the last, and that I can get a little better too…”
“I hope this year is just as fun as last year! Maybe even more, if that’s possible!”
With those hopes in their hearts, the three pacas looked forward.

I knew I wanted to participate in the newest Pacapillar DTA/WTA the moment I saw not only the wonderful split design, but the meaning behind each of them and the premise of the contest.
I wanted to include each of my three Pacas, and they fit with the split's feelings so well; Kairi is warmth, Ame is mending, and Marx is cheer.
Each of the hopes that my Pacapillars show for the new year are mine as well. Many can agree that 2016 was not the best. In fact, for a lot of us, I know it was easily one of the worst. However, nothing can be gained from dwelling on the past except more sadness. We can only hope for and work towards a better and brighter 2017.
